Windows 8 New Install: cannot install new programs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I have a clean install of windows 8.

I am running as an admin.

Installation of firefox, chrome, and java will only shows the 'hourglass' and then stops.

Running the .exe as an administrator (and option on right click) is no help.

After digging around, task manager is showing the .exe running, but only as a background application.

Hence, no install wizard is presented.

Further, any Microsoft Windows Store update (including Skype and the weather app) hangs.

As I am somewhat new to win8, is there a fix or am I looking at a full clean install?

Note, there have been other reports of this on the net, but no good answer given.

    Thanks

  • I'd ask on the Windows 8 forum on Microsoft Community.

Sadly, that's on a different forum platform, so we cannot move your question.

  • To follow-up for those that end up reading this thread.

Something was not right with the original install.  A clean install (Win8 recovery if you will) fixed this issue.

There is another thread where a few other things were tried first, but the attempts did not bare fruit.

    Cheers.
