My copy of Vista is genunine but i get invalid licence on GA diagnositcs RRS feed

  • Question

  •

After i installed the game crysis along with Punk buster and comrade (i have since uninstalled punkbuser and comrade) i was told by crysis that i should install an update that will imrpove performance by making so that my video memory (or ram, can't remember) won't reach its limits as fast or somthing to that effect (i really can't remember what it was) so installed that update, reinstaleld and then i get the message that Windows has detected a change and now it won't work propperly any more.

I haven't changed any peice of hardware since i installed vista, however i have a  feeling it might be from drivers installing several times from programs that use them like ghost wall.

Since i can't run certian things i have to press f8 and run in un signed driver mode becuase i get a BSOD when i run otherwise.

The core to your particular issue centers on the line in your Diagnostic Report that reads:

All of those files are Critical System Files. Vista keeps close tabs on these files because:

    a) They are very importent for Vista to function correctly.

(crypt32.dll is the file that runs Vista's Cryptographics systems, advpack.dll assists with hardware and software installs by reading and verifying .INF files and shell32.dll is a library which contains Windows Shell API functions, which are used when opening web pages and files...to name a few).

    b) Some of the files are used to Validate Vista.

(slsvc.exe is a Software Licensing Service and is used to protect digital products from copyright infringement).

    and

    c) some of the files, have in the past, been hacked/modified to circumvent Product Activation/Validation.

File Mismatch means that the file's Signature Hash does not match it's Signature Hash listed in the System Catalog. This usually means that file has been hacked/modified in some way or it has become corrupt.

And, since slsvc.exe is one of the files that is listed as Mismatched, that is most likely why the Software Licensing Service will not run (and why Vista is flagging itself as Non-Genuine)

So the fact that Vista is flagged as Non-Genuine is only a side-affect of a larger issue. And that Larger issue could have been caused by anything from Manual Manipulation of the files by a user to Installation of a program that Manipulated the files to Data Corruption (which could have been caused by a Malfunctioning Hard Drive or Virus Attack ).

Normally when I see this issue, only one file is listed as Mismatch and to fix that, I usually have the user reinstall a past update, which contained that file. The update would overwrite the bad file with the known-good copy.

In your case, a number of the files, that you have listed as Mismatch, are not contained in any updates, so my only suggestions are:

    A)  Repair Windows using System Restore:

    1) Reboot Vista into Safe Mode

    2) Go to Control Panel

    3) On the left hand side of the Control Panel window, Click on "Classic View"

    4) Double-click "Backup and Restore Center"

    5) On the left hand side of the window, click "Repair Windows using system restore"

    6) Select "Choose Different Restore Point", Put a check in the box that says "Show restore points older than 5 days", select the restore point that corresponds to the date Before you first noticed the issue.

    7) Click the "Next" button.

    8) Reboot back into Normal mode

    9) Vista should no longer be in Reduced Functionality mode

     B) Contact Vista support at http://support.microsoft.com

    or

     C) Reinstall Vista

do you have any idea what might have done this? could Vista SP1 have not installed properly? from the pref stability indicator ive uninstalled all programs that could modify systme files, the only thing left was vista SP1 which kind of had a screwy instilation, i just did a reinstall but i have yet to reboot since i did it and run WGA diag again.

I am unsure what you mean by 'SP1 was the only thing left', at the time you created the above Diagnostic Report, your Vista Did Not have SP1 installed.

If your Vista had SP1, then the line "Build lab:" would show something similar to "6001.longhorn_rtm.080118-1840" But instead, your Diagnostic shows "6000.vista_gdr.071023-1545" and 6000 is the number for Vista without SP1 installed.

It's a long shot, but installing SP1 may actually resolve the issue. But I am not positive that SP1 contains copys of all the files that you have Mismatched.

As to how this could happen, as I mentioned, it could have been caused by anything from Manual Manipulation of the files by a user to Data Corruption (which could have been caused by a Malfunctioning Hard Drive or Virus Attack ) to Installation of a program that modified or corrupted the files (note: uninstalling such programs would not resolve the issue, since the files have already been modified... example: say I broke my leg on a rock, throwing the rock away wouldn't make my leg any better)
