Install error reporting services: RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running into an issue installing Dynamics CRM 4.0 on Server 2008 and SQL 2008.  I get this errror in the verification process
"Setup failed to validate specified Reporting Services Report Server http://702SCHOLTENCRMV/ReportServer. Error: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.
Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.
    "
When I attempt to go to the http://702SCHOLTENCRMV/ReportServer URL I get a page with no folders in it.  Has anyone run into this??

    Thank you!

  • Take a look at my article on the CRM team blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/crm/archive/2009/05/04/building-a-self-contained-virtual-crm-development-server.aspx
There's a section on configuring SSRS on 2008. It definitely can be problematic. If you're still able to get to the reportserver URL but don't see any folders, close IE and re-open it as an administrator (right-click the IE icon and choose 'Run as administrator') - You should then be able to see the folders and be able to click on the "Show Details" link and access the report server settings.
    Hope this helps!

  • Will you able to logon to your report manager? http://702SCHOLTENCRMV/Reports

For your Rerport Instance, what user is running under? NETWORK SERVICE?

  • In addition to Darren's reply, did you configure the Report server successfully through the Report Server Configuration tool?

  • I was able to log into my reports manager with no problem.  It was a fully functional report manager website.    Yes it is all running under Network Service.

  • Hello Donna,

I believe I did, but SQL 2008 is much different than SQL 2005.  Here is how I have report services configured.

In Service account I have it set to built-in account of Network Service

In Web Service URL I have it set to the Virtual directory of ReportServer: IP address All assigned: TCP Port 80: SSL not selected.

In Report Server Database I have it set to datavase name of ReportServer and the server mode is Native, the Server Database credential is Service account, login is NetworkService

Report Manager URL is set to Reports

    Email Settings is blank

I do no have an execution account setup

I have set up and encryption key

In Scale-out Deployment the status is SQL name 702SCHLOTENCRMV: Database name is ReportServer: ReportServer Mode is Native.  The instance has a status of joined.

Does this sound as though it is configured correctly?  As I stated before Report Manager works perfectly, just not Reporting Services.

I appreciate all of your help!

  • Sounds right,  there are several posts on similar issues.  You may want to bing it in respect to Report server and leave out CRM.  This seems to be a common issue and there are several potential solutions.  I copied a few below for reference.  Some of these are 2005 but might still point you in the right direction for a solution.

I've seen what appear to be odd issues when IIS is not configured correctly, is not leveraging the correct .net version or some other configuration for 2008 install is not followed correctly.  Take a look at this post for potential 2008 issues and ensure everything is configured correctly.

My guess is that you have checked all the related SQL services and everything is running as expected without issue and that all services that should be started are started and start automatically on reboot.
