CRM2011 - Allowing for Rich Text Entry into Text Fields RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm familiar with SharePoint's functionality of allowing Rich Text in multi-line text boxes.  Does CRM 2011 (On-Prem) have such Rich Text functionality in the system?

  • Hi,

In CRM Custom fields does not supports Rich Text Formatted data in Multi-Line text boxes but there are some system fields only that allows i.e. Email Body, Article Body etc..but in CRM 2011 with the support of Silverlight & HTML Webresourses, you can cretae a Rich Text Format component in silverlight and HTMl and can store ints value in CRM entity record and on load can load the value back CRM entity record.

You may also reffer to the example (not as per requirement but will give you an idea) at the following Url: http://promx.wordpress.com/2010/03/11/using-formatted-html-text-directly-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm-4-0-and-use-it-in-reports/

  • Hi,

As i mentioned that either in CRM 2011 you may have to develop a silverligth webresource that will host Rich Text Box component (so users can enter the Rich Formatted data) and on Form Save Event then you can save the rich text box value into CRM entity field. Similarly on load you can load the entity field value into the Silverlight component. Using HTML Webresouce, Silverligth Webresource and Asp.net based Component (On-Premise hosted in CRM/ISV or external IIS website ) is the only supported way of havign a rich text component in CRM 2011.

And Silverlight is fully supported in CRM 2011. CRM standard functionality does not support Rich Format Textbox fields. Regarding the example it was just only for refrence purposes.

I believe this answers your quesiton.

  • This only partially answers the question.  I agree this would provide Rich Text formatting, but the project I am working with requires it to be strictly in CRM with no integration with other systems (the example you provided suggests using SSRS, which is unavailable at this time.  Subsequently, the site you linked to is for CRM 4.0.  Is there anything for CRM 2011?

  • Thanks.  I unmarked your original question as a proposed answer because its my habit to unmark proposed answers to my threads which i havent reviewed yet.
