Home server connector RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

On all my computers, XP Sp3, it tells me that there is a connector upgrade avaible.
I then log into the console, click on "Network at risk" and click on "A connector upgrade is available.

On the web page I click "Download now". I then get this message: "You are not authorized to view this page".

Examining the default.html on the server in "c:\inetpub\intranet", I find that it points to "c:\inetpub\intranet\setup\whsconnectorinstall.exe".

Sadly, the setup directory is not there at all. can it be re-instated or is a new installation of WHS necessary?

    Regards

  • Hi, Finn,

Server re-install will not wipe out your data or backup. Just make sure you choose the "server re-install" option in setup process.

The backup data are under D:\folders\{00008086-058D-4C89-AB57-A7F909A47AB4}\, which means you will need to Remote Desktop to the machine to copy that out.

  • Hi,

You are looking in the wrong location, the correct place is under :
    Shared Folders/Software/Home Server Connector Software.
You could copy the appropriate files from there to your Client and run the update from there.

  • Hi.

    Thanks for your reply.

I had a look in the "Shared Folders/Software/Home Server Connector Software". I copied the whole Home server directory to the client machine and ran the "setup.exe".

I still got the message that; "A connector Upgrade is Available".

Also. the files in that directory is is dated 2007. They were probably put there when I installed WHS. And there is no file there called; "whsconnectorinstall.exe".

I still wonder, why does the "default.html" point to "c:\inetpub\intranet\setup\whsconnectorinstall.exe".??

    Regards

  • It sounds like you haven't been getting updates installed on your server for some reason. Your connector folder (in your shares) should contain updated installation files. Can you check in the console to see what the versions shown on the Settings/Resources tab are?
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

    Hi Ken.

    Here is the info from the resources tab;

    Windows Home Server Console: 6.0.1800.0
Windows Home Server Backup & Restore: 6.0.1800.36
Windows Home Server Drive Extender: 6.0.1800.24
Windows Home Server Remote Access: 6.0.1800.0
Windows Home Server Storage Manager: 6.0.1800.24

Automatic updates is on and working. A check said that no new updates was available.

This problem started about a month or so ago. Up to then, there was no problem. Going to the intranet web page to update the connector worked. now it doesn't.

I'm all alone and I just worry a lot.  :-)

It seems you did have the Feb update installed (version 1800.36) already. Did you ever remove or renamed the ”\\server\Software\Home Server Connector Software\“ folder?

Can you submit a bug Connect and include the client and server CABs? We are really interested in troubleshotting this issue you have.

  • Hi Fan.

I did submit a bug report with the cab numbers.

Unfortunately, I'm known on that site as "Speedy Gonzales", so it might not have been re-directed to you,

I also received a message in reply which stated that they had never seen a bug like this and they recommended a re-install.

Will a reinstall  vipe all folders and backups?

In case it does, I have copied all folders on the server to an external disk. But where do I find the backups?
