  • Hello 001moni,

I am unsure of what your issue is. Your Diagnostic Report shows Vista as Genuine and I see no error codes.

Vista that comes preinstalled on a computer, built by a large computer manufacturer, come with two (2) product keys:

    1) OEM SLP: This key come inside Vista when it comes from the Factory. This key is geared to work with the special instructions found only on that Manufacturer's motherboards. So when Vista was installed using the OEM SLP key  (at the factory) Vista looks at the motherboard and see the special instructions and Activates itself. (that's why you did need to Activate your computer after you brought it home). Since this key is for self activation, it can not be used to activate (thru Microsoft) either over the internet or by phone.

    2) COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side of your computer. It is diffrent than the OEM SLP key. It's a valid product key, but should only be used in limited situations. The key must be activated (thru Microsoft), but can only be Activated by Phone.

Your Vista is currently using the OEM SLP key, so it should be self activated. Are you receiveing some kind of error asking you to Activate?  Please describe the issue in more detail.

    Thank you,

    Thank you for helping me.

I'll go to the start button, go up to microsoft office word 2007, click on it once, program comes up, then it will ask do I want to enter my product code key, I used the one on the back of the computer and it says it is incorrect. Normally I can click no a it will go into the program but now it has shut me out.

  • The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office.  Please review the following:

How to determine whether you have a trial edition of a 2007 Office suite or program installed:

How to convert a trial version of a 2007 Office suite or program to a full retail perpetual license version:

How to buy the 2007 Microsoft Office suites:

  • Thanks I ran a diagnostic on microsoft through the activitation assistant which is located through all programs menu and it gave me a new number to input. It is a trail version of course these were not part of the instructions in my new laptop. It works fine now for 60 days. Thank you for guiding me through to this point.
