Renew Subscription vs New Purchase RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just received a notification explaining that my OneCare product subscription will expire in 18 days, and surfing online I find I can renew the subscription to v1.5 for $119. I'm just wondering why I'd do this when I can buy a copy (with 1 yr subscriction) for $26 and renew the subscription using the retail box serial as a token number?

    Am I missing something?

  • You can renew with a retail key at any time (and often save money in the process...as online renewal is at the full retail price for your region).

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.

Hi, please enlighten me. Have did what you stated. Initially my billing account showed my new expired date my my new purchase. Next day it show back the expired date of my old purchase. Now my OneCare already expired, yet my suscription status still not yet updated.

  • Signing in at the Billing link shows the old expiration and does not reflect the renewal that you performed by providing the retail key? Does it show expired?

If you repeat the renewal attempt with the key, does it tell you that the key was used already?

I think that you may want to contact Billing support -

And, please report back what the situation is as this process has worked many times before. If something is broken, we need to know that!
