Solving Issue with connector software and requirment for upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just got a "new" WHS (I took an old machine and added the software plus 2TB storage).

I can see the D drive and the CD1 storage location of the connector software.

I installed this on two client machines,  after install, I get a message that says, "a newer version of WHS connector is available" when I click upgrade, it does not find the server to upgrade.  That said, i can see the c and d drives on the server from the client machine..so there is a connection.

    Where do I start/

  • While you say you've been able to get the connector installed, you should not have needed to do so from software on the server's C: drive, so I think there's a problem with your server; possibly something failed partway through the initial installation or there's a driver problem or something. I assume you're just starting with WHS, so probably the best thing to do would be a fresh installation.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • The upgrade can fail, if the files in the folder Home Server Connector Software on the Software share are not up to date or have been removed.
You should usually never access files directly on the drives of your server, always go over the shared folders on server link.

  • I got it fixed, by uninstalling the connector and re-installing from another location on the server (c drive vs d drive)....software there, must have been better...??
