WIndows Home Server Console for Archos 604 wifi RRS feed

  • Question

    Hi

I have an Archos 604 wifi and it would be very useful to be able to access the WHS console from the wifi unit. I appreciate it will probably not supprt RDP however is there another possible method to gain control of some of the servers functions from this unit?

  • I see. If your device supports some other remote control tool, you might be able to install the server portion of that on your WHS PC. But there's no other interface supplied by Microsoft.

  • Windows Home Server only supports administering the server via the WHS Console application, which you access via Remote Desktop. (Even the console you access through the tray icon is a Remote Desktop session with the server.) So no, out of the box there's nothing that will allow you to access the console without Remote Desktop. If your device supports another remote access tool, you might be able to install the server portion of that and gain access that way.

I'll admit that I don't see why you would want access to the server console from your device. Your device is a media player; it's not really intended for use as a handheld PC, and it's not going to be very good at it. Even if it were e.g. a multifunction remote control, Windows Home Server is pretty much a "set it and forget it" device. There's nothing you're going to need to tweak "on the fly."

  • I still don't understand what you want to do. Your device is a media player; I don't think it even has the ability to act as a PDA or tablet. In order to manage something on Windows Home Server, it needs to be able to act as a PC. I don't see that changing...

Can you describe your scenario in a little more detail? Maybe there's a workaround.

  • It runs the Opera internet browser. I can access my shared folders on the remote web page. It's really just to control utorrent. The Utorrent webui is not supported on Opera however.
