Windows 7 Ultimate factory install not genuine?

Question
-
I bought an Alienware m17x R3 7 months ago with no issues on it, but recently (just today) I got a message that said this copy of windows was not genuine-
which is weird since it came preinstalled with the laptop. But the day before my Mcafee antivirus notified me there was a Trojan ZeroAccess, then my internet promptly disabled. Long story short, I used system restore and...well I thought everything was running fine again lol, anyways-
I tried retyping the product key labelled on the back of the laptop using the "Change Product Key" option a few times; the first attempt it said that this copy is not genuine, and the next couple attempts it said that this doesn't appear to be a valid windows 7 product key...now this is really confusing..
,
I used the Windows genuine diagnostic tool and this is what came back (I understand very little of it lol):

Possibly the best thing to do now would be to attempt telephone activation and speak to an operator.
If they tell you the Key is blocked, ask when, and why.
telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

ZeroAccess is a VERY nasty beast - you should back upyour data to external storage now, in case it hasn't been stopped in its tracks - I had to reformat with total data loss a machine a couple of weeks ago once it got hold. :( - no data at all was discoverable!
to your problem:-
Please first try recreating Licensing Store.
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe
into the 'Search programs and files' field3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case
Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Already backed up! Thanks for the warning :p
I typed everything in, but on step 10 the dialog which came up said that this version of windows is not genuine, and the only option it has is |Go online and resolve now."
It looks like activation occurred automatically, so I'm going to reboot now and post the new diagnosis- Edited by Jimasda34 Saturday, August 11, 2012 8:34 PM mistake

That's odd - you are entering the whole command on the same line (even if it does wrap, it's the same line)?
so it starts cd %windir% and ends \SoftwareProtectionPlatform

I made a mistake while typing that line into cmd, I didn't put the space between cd and %windir.
I just rebooted after the automatic (and failed) activation, the message that Windows is not genuine still appears; here's the new info:

Christ on a bike what a palaver signing in!
Just want to add I
got that 'not genuine' message on this Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Acer
as bought from Amazon, when experimenting with installing XP Mode (or
rather, installing Windows VPC) and was required to install the Genuine
Disadvantage update (that I never otherwise install). On reboot I got
the message. I uninstalled the update and the message hasn't appeared
since.Meanwhile trying to submit this I get a blank box with one
button - 'OK' - which if I click, just disappears. Reminds me of my
onmouseover trick on my old website, where the message was 'You must
have javascript enabled to view this' and you had to use the back button
to get rid of it.Eat it raw!
Sunday, August 12, 2012 10:48 AM -
Works using that is. Now seeing if a different Fantastic Four theme shows dialogue in said box.
No.
Now trying with the default theme. Though beginning to suspect the
dialogue is along the lines of 'You must use Intermittent Exploder to
post to this forum', in a font and background of the same colour.No. Again posting using Indigent Expunger.
Eat it raw!

That error box usually appears when you've been impatient and clicked on the 'reply' link before the page has finished loading - or you're on a bad connection which has broken while editing, with a resulting change in IP.
Hitting the submit button again will often work OK.
As to uninstalling the WAT update - all that does is hide the problem, it doesn't cure it, and it is not recommended procedure.
If you are having problems, astart a new thread of your own, and post an MGADiag report (with WAT installed).

No, not having problems, Noel. But are you seriously suggesting my laptop has a non-genuine copy? As opposed to the (unnecessary for anything) update (that WU presents unselected unlike every other update from day 1 for W7) being flaky?
Eat it raw!
Sunday, August 12, 2012 11:18 AM -
No - I never even suggested that!
However, if the WAT update shows that you have a problem, then you have a problem, and uninstalling the update does not cure the problem, it merely hides it from sight.
The best way to correct that is to reinstall the update, and post a report, so that we can solve the underlying problem - or at least identify it.
tehre are many reasons why a system may show as non-genuine - with or without the update installed - and most of the time the system itself is perfectly genuine, but part of the system has been broken, either by malware, accident, or incorrect user intervention. proper diagnosis allows us to to repair the system, which helps he whole machine run better.

Just testing the changed ip hypothesis. 90.197.189.111 at the moment.
No,
still doesn't work in FF, restarted, ip unchanged. No real benefit in
W-VPC on here anyway. On the desktop with Pro and a higher resolution
(ie don't have to disable whatever it is they call Additions these days
to use full screen), maybe, plus with all the USB3 gear it might be
worth it, but on the lappy I'll stick with VPC 2007. Whereas on the
desktop I just installed another 500G SATA-600 and figure on trying
RAID1, but really can't be arsed to make another XP installation disk
containing the RAID drivers to get round the lack of a floppy drive this
time around.I'm with Sky these days, Noel and getting a steady
reliable 1.2 Mb/s. Better performance than from Be. Actually there is
little I can fault Sky for apart from who owns it. And that the Sagem
box won't reset (part of the reason I went with Sky was expecting the
Netgear box Mike originally clued me in about, which could have been a
genuine Genuine Advantage).See you around. Remember to keep toeing the line!
