One client will not allow me to restore a system image using the recovery CD. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Each time I try to use the recovery disk it doesn't recognize the LAN driver that I have on a USB drive.  It does recognize the other drivers and the USB drive itself.  My other clients have no problem with recovery.  I tried the other four clients yesterday, and they all worked flawlessly.  I am using a Dell pc as a client with a built-in LAN, Intel(R)82567lf-2 gig network connection.  The WHS does back up this client nightly, without any problems.  Would it be possible to run an ethernet cable directly from the clkient to the server and do a recovery that way?  BTW, I am able to restore files, but not do a system restore.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Well, I tried the first option without success.  I'm sure the second option will succeed, so I'll thank you in advance and mark this as resolved. Thank you for your time and answer.

  • Are you using the "Windows Home Server drivers for restore" folder from a backup of that computer? If not, try putting that entire folder (from any backup of the computer in question) on your thumb drive. Also, if your computer has a 64 bit OS installed, you will need to use 32 bit drivers for the restore CD.

As a practical alternative, remove the drive you want to restore from that computer and connect it to some other computer joined to your server. On that other computer, run C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\ClientRestoreWizard.exe and do the restore that way. It's the same functionality, just hosted in a full Windows environment with functional network drivers.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
