Appointment attendee invites from CRM

Question
-
We have Roll Up 8 CRM 4.0 installed and I'm not sure if this issue occurred before Roll Up 8 or not as the implementation is relatively new. We have noticed if a user creates an appointment in CRM and adds attendees, the appointment synchronizes with the creators Outlook calendar but it does not automatically send the appointment invitation to those people who have been set as Required or Optional in the appointment.
I have not tested how this works with CRM contacts but when we invite CRM Users, who do have an email address and are enabled users they do not receive the appointment invite.
The only way to get the invite to send is to open the appointment in Outlook after it has synced with CRM and hit the ‘Send Update’ button on the Outlook Appointment form.
Why does the invite not send automatically when the CRM appointment syncs with Outlook?
Thanks, Nicola

Hi Nicola, in all the time I've used CRM 3.0 and 4.0, it has never sent an appointment invitation to any appointment invitee. I thought this was a feature of Outlook only, and not CRM. So I have always suggested that users create their appointments in Outlook and Track in CRM if they wish the attendees to receive an invitation.

Hi Nic,
It is true that an invitation is not sent via e-mail to attendees like we see when we create appointments in Outlook. However, the attendees, not just the appointment creator, should find the appointment synced to their Outlook calendar if the attendee has the CRM for Outlook Client installed, has sync rights in CRM, and has the option to sync appointments selected from the CRM option menu.
The downside of the above, is that the attendees do not receive a 'notification' via e-mail that an appointment was added to the attendees calendar unless you create a workflow that sends an e-mail notification or some other notification method. That is why I generally encourage people to create the appointment in CRM and use the Track feature as well.

Hi, I have the complete opposite problem. I am generating appointments from a quick campaign for a list of customers. Meeting requests are then sent to all customers from Outlook upon synchronization. I do not want this to happen. I have found no settings to in CRM or Outlook to stop this from happen.
I'm also running RU8, so it should be possible for you to get this to work. I suppose this has something to do with settings in Outlook.
Best regards
Morten

I'm with Neil on this one, I've never seen CRM generate an email invitation for a meeting.
