Transfering to WHS 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently rebuilt and reinstalled my OS (Win8) on my home PC, then reinstalled the connect to server software to my server.

I am able to see the server, all the drives/folders/files and even copy things FROM my server (WHS 2011) to any PC in my home...but I am unable to copy files/videos TO the server anymore. I get message stating I need permission for this.

Everything is set up exactly as before on my new PC, but I have changed nothing on my other PC, but still unable to move things to the server anymore...thoughts?

  • Are you login into the windows 8 machine with a local account or a MS Live account?  If it is a Live account you should be able to go into the control panel-credentials manager and set up that server account information.

The certificate wouldn't have anything to do with the local issue, that is for logging in from the net.

  • Have you verified that user account has Read/Write permissions and not just Read via the Dashboard?

  • Yup, everything is as was before the new PC build.

Since this is my network, the domain has nothing to do this, right?

Having issues with remote log-in, seems domain not registered any more and have to pick another

between Go Daddy and one other. I thought MS was the domain host. Regardless, this shouldn't have any

issues with transferring files thru my network to the server. Thinking something to do with certificates and

    permissions somewhere. Thought...?

  • Yup, was using Win8 when first built the server and still using it on the rebuild. Tried both the MS account and local account with no difference.

Found the control panel-credentials page, but unfamiliar with how this works, but on another note, never had to set up anything here when I first

built the server. Everything worked right off the bat then. It just seems weird that I can copy/move anything OFF the server, but not copy/move anything

TO the server without getting a pop-up stating I don't have permission. This has to be something so simple to fix, but eludes me.

  • Well, found a way to get it working. I created a HomeGroup and can transfer back to the server again.

Not sure why this is the only way, never had to do this the first time I set it up.

Now if I could just get my videos/audio movies to stop stuttering when I play them...:)
