  • Receivig this error message in outlook and unable to send, access or receive emails since 17h36 tonight... Is the problem on my end because I have made no updates or changes other than changing my password after a few hours of trying to resolve the issue?

  • Me too, for at least 8 hours.  My email client works fine and so does my smart phone. However, I cannot log into my email account through any browser.  i.e.  Firefox, Chrome, IE11 or Edge.

    You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

    Well, after reading more of the comments below, at least I now feel better knowing that my e-mail account was not hacked or the like.

  • I was thinking that my pc were hacked and someone placed a trojan. But I can login to the https://account.live.com/activity

    So I changed all my paswords, checked the last login activity, but still from the same IP.

    Thanks for this post, now I will just wait for it to be fixed.

    de ce qui est dit, suite à une mise à jour il y a eu un defaut d'accès pour des client suite quoi microsoft a testé puis déployé un fix (correctif) pour règler ce problème. 100% des comptes à November 15, 2018, at 10:22 PM UTC soit 11H22 CET

    Malheureusement le correctif n'a semble-t-il pas règlé l'intégralité des comptes clients. ils analysent encore la raison pour laquelle le correctif n'a pas corrigé certains comptes.

  • Don´t know if anyone has mentioned this before but I have just configured the account from the outlook app on my android phone and it works perfectly fine.

  • I was just able to sign in using a slightly different email address. So it appears that the problem lies with a possible corruption of a part of Outlook's list of authorized users.

    I signed in with an email address associated with my WIN local administrator account. I have been unable to sign in with a slightly different email address associated with a different WIN local limited user account.

  • I assume they know whats going on and are working on a solution, millions of people are affected it was even on my local news station lol. Anyways i downloaded the outlook app onto my phone and it worked fine and yes i'm also getting the same message on either chrome or safari, not sure if my emails are being updated however at least i was able to sign in and send out some stuff.

  • Guys you should all try the app on your phone, my phone broke so I couldn't try it but I downloaded bluestacks on my pc then downloaded the outlook mobile app on bluestacks which works so the app probably works too. The website still doesn't work for me though.

  • I tried to access my Outlook email account @msn.com without success using my iPhone on an LTE connection miles away from my computer and still cannot get into my email. That was 12:40 p.m. EST.

    For whatever value it may be if anyone from Outlook actually is monitoring this forum, please note that my home page is set to be MSN.com. I am successfully signed in there and I can see my email account and several messages. But when I click on any message to read it, I continue to receive the 401 error. So the emails are there; I just cannot successfully sign in to read them.

    We have several different @msn.com email accounts. Only one of them appears to be affected at this point. Whatever Microsoft claims, in my case the problem is not solved!

  • As others have said, if you have the outlook app you can access the account through there.  Going in through any regular browser does not work.  Through the app I was able to access my inbox and send a message.

    Also, as someone else said, I'm only having this issue with one of my hotmail accounts.

  • I contacted Microsoft. They said it was on there side. Also if you were already signed in on another device (Iphone, Android etc.) you should be able to access Outlook mail. If you were not signed in you cannot access. There not sure how long it will be down.

  • I have been logged into my phone for the last day.  I am able to read hotmail on my phone but still get the 401 error when trying to log in using a browser.  Hopefully, we see an update in the next 30 mins.

    This issue is caused due to server issue between 16-18 of November, but it got resolved.  May I know if your outlook email box could use properly now? If you have any further assistance, please feel free to let us know.

  • Still happening for me.  Can log into other live.com apps like Word and OneDrive, but anything Outlook I am getting this error message.  In New Zealand
