  • Question

  • I use onecare to backup all my files to an external hard drive once a week.

iam considering purchasing a new computer, would it be possible to "backup" to the new computer and have all of the same settings.

The old computer runs xp, new one will be vista

I have 2 physical hard drives and 4 partitions on old computer

  • When you get the new PC, you can install OneCare on that PC and then use the restore wizard to restore the backed up files from your most recent backup to the new PC. It will not be bringing settings over.

You may want to look into the Easy Transfer Wizard to move you settings over - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928634/

You will still have the OneCare backups to fall back on should some files not transfer to the new PC, assuming that they were backed up by OneCare.
