I like other people have bought from reputable dealers, in this case Microsoft (Ultimate steal/Digital river student offer here in the UK) please dont tell me the error code i have 108 VLK means that microsoft are selling pirated software as that is ridiculous, I should imagine that the recent windows update is the cause and the sooner that bug is fixed the sooner the number of threads on this board will go down!

i'm sure the reply will be the standard you have a pirated software response, so seeing as Microsoft sold me the pirated software can you please replace it, so i stop getting the annoying message everytime i open office :)

sorry if i come across as slightly annoyed, but ive been keeping an eye on this forum the last couple of days and the response always seems the same.

    cheers,
    Dave.

It looks like you have two installations of Office on the computer, Office Enterprise 2007 and Office Ultimate 2007.

Note that Enterprise is the one showing that it is nongenuine with an invalid Volume Licensing Key.  Ultimate is showing as not being activated.

Dispensing with the details and cutting right to the chase.... :-)

Uninstall Enterprise; restart twice; go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on Validate Office to clear the Notifier cache; restart; click on Start>All Programs>Office Ultimate>Word.  If the Activation Wizard does not start, click on the Office button>Word Options>Resources>Activate Office.  Once activated, restart, revisit www.microsoft.com/genuine, click Validate Office, and you should be fine.  You can come back here after all that and post a fresh mgadiag report for one last look-see if you'd like.

Let us know how you are doing!

  • Hi  emera1d,

In addition to Dan's post, if you see the Non-Genuine Notification come up again, click the "Learn More Online" link.  This will force the Notifier to recheck your Office's Genuine status.

(The Office Notifier only automaticly rechecks Office's Genuine status around every 7 days, so once you uninstalled the Non-Genuine Office, the Notifier hadn't yet automaticly rechecked.  So you would need to Force it to or wait a few days till it rechecked automaticly.)

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • Hi Dan,

You are a scholar and a gentleman! That worked perfectly and everything is working as it was/as it should, so many thanks!

just out of interest....how did i come to have two versions of office 2007 on my computer, the ultimate version is the copy i bought, so where did the enterprise come from? Also it's only since the windows update the other day that i have had this error message, was the update the cause of all these validation messages?

once again thanks for your help!

    cheers,
    Dave.

  • Hello emera1d,

Glad to see it all got sorted out. ;-)

If you bought the computer second-hand, or ever left it with a computer repair shop, or ever had a friend "help" you with a computer problem, those are common sources for nongenuine software.  If the computer was purchased brand-new-in-the-box and has never been out of your control, then it would be a matter for 221B Baker Street.

The most recent release of the Office Genuine Advantage Notifier Utility being distributed via Windows Updates has been reprogrammed with a more assertive style as well as enhanced detection of nongenuine office installations.  The current OGA Notifier now works a lot like the Windows notifier has worked for a while.

  • Hello again,

The computer was bought by me brand new from Dell and as i said the software was downloaded/purchased from the ultimate steal website.....and in normal circumstances i can help myself LOL! So this really is a mystery.

Anyway, I came back for a reason...

Even though the diagnostic tool reports everything as genuine, after a shutdown/reboot, I open outlook and the validation message keeps popping up, should this keep doing this? And how can I stop it?

    thanks in advance!

    cheers,
    Dave.

...would tell us if the OGA Notifier utility had a nongenuine result in its cache that may be responsible for the notification that you are seeing in Outlook, but AFAIK when it says "N/A" that should not cause the issue.

So, let's try Method 3 in this MS KB article:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895/

After that, restart and visit www.microsoft.com/genuine to validate Office.

Then, use Outlook 2007 normally and monitor the situation to see if the nongenuine notification returns, which it should not since your Office Ultimate 2007 is reporting as a Genuine installation of a retail license, just as we would expect it to be.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
