Install connector - password incorrect problem WS 2011
Essentially I reinstalled 3 times. All machines (win 7 64) see the server, the server sees all machines.
Start a browser to servername/connect, get to the connector software download, starts up, gets to password... incorrect password. What am I missing here? :(
Now FWIW, these machines were at one time on a HP470 (32bit) server. Is it possible there's a conflict there somehow? I actually had a problem with that one connecting. For some reason (after years of use) it lost contact it and I could never figure out why or how to get it back. Same thing there. It could see all machines, all machines could see it. Hence building this new box (with more storage space).

This didn't help me but quite a few found it worked for them...
•Start –> type secpol.msc in the Search Box and click the magnifying glass
•Select Local Policies –> Security Options –> Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level
•Change the setting to Send NTLM response only
•Save
•Restart the machine
•Attempt the installation again.- Marked as answer by Arthur_LiMicrosoft contingent staff Monday, May 21, 2012 6:52 AM

Hi .
Context:
:Win 7 laptop connecting well to the WHS console; Win 7 to be installed on desktop after a win XP failure, hence the need to reinstall the WHS connector on the desktop for getting access to the WHS console . But got the famous message that the password was wrong.
After many hours searching various solutions and reading all threads , i eventually got it working.
I first tried different options suggested in this thread or others , including :
. checking time was the same on the WHS machine and on my desktop
. Checking my desktop could access to shared folders on other PC's
. Creating a win 7 elevated administrator account ,
. checking WHS and desktop were in the same work group.
None of these worked until the time I double checked again ( with my win 7 laptop) the time on my WHS. For some unexpected reason , it had changed again . I put the right time and as soon as I did it , the WHS shared folder icon appeared on my desktop screen !!! I then run the WHS connector installation which ran quite smoothly.
Here is the final set up :
. My win 7 desktop has normal access to shared folders on the other PC's
. Session opened as a "standard " administrator account , using the same log in name as one of these registered on my WHS . The level of permission issue raised in some threads therefore does not seem to me to be so relevant.
. WHS and desktop and laptop are in the same workgroup . But I can not say whether this is or not a prerequisite .
Conclusion : check and double check time on the WHS machine.
Hope this will help.
