Is it True there is really no good way to back up a 2011 WHS System Partition RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just installed WHS 2011 to a Dell T110 II. In reading about system backups they suggest, it appears, attaching an external drive. Am I reading this right? Can you not backup the system to another internal drive? A USB drive looks like a good way to lose everything. It would seem also hard to find user backups if the system goes down. I guess if the system goes down you have to rebuild it from scratch including the user backups. In other systems I use Norton Ghost which can backup a system drive to a second internal drive, then recover from that second drive. This is very reliable.

  • You can back up to an internal drive - that's what I do (although it's in a dock). The idea is that you can easily rotate backup drives offsite for safety.

  • Thanks, I'll see if I can follow the instructions to do this. I have recycled some 2TB drives into the server for hopefully this purpose.
