Informed my counterfeit copy of Office 2003 is poor quality RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having had the non-genuine pop-up when opening outlook 2003, talking to microsoft on the phone and then sending the disk and all relevant paperwork in to them to be checked and a replacement sent out, I am told that it is a poor copy!!! I have just had 3 hours on the phone to them and it turns out to be a glitch in the system. The microsoft checking software has picked up a code that was from a copy of outlook that the repair chappie installed and then removed when attending to my PC. so where did that leave me?? I was transferred to tech department who ran through removing the old software and replacing it. Following his instructions the software was removed and he then said I could put my disk back in and re-install the software. What disk?? I told him I don't have my Office Pro 2003 disk because microsoft had it and scrapped it. Was I going to get a replacement??  No, they said the disk wasn't genuine even though it was, they just looked at a number that was generated from my PC for the original report and didn't even look at the software on the disk. They even admited that they do not have the time nor the technology at the PID centre to check software on the disks and that it does state that media cannot be returned.!!! what sort of organisation is this??? I now have a PC with no office pro on it even though I had a valid genuine copy on there and a bill for a long phone call. It seems to me that the microsoft customer support isnt really support, more like a glorified sales team.

  • Hello thermalseeker,

Could you explain what you meant when you wrote this?  " I am told that it is a poor copy!!!"

Are you saying that you were told that the software materials you sent in were of such poor quality that they could not qualify as "high quality counterfeits"?

  • Hello thermalseeker,

You wrote, "No, they said the disk wasn't genuine even though it was,..."

How could a poor copy be genuine?

  • if you are going to throw it in the bin and not return it you can say anything.

Dan, I know you are trying to help but the simple fact is, the software on the disk isn't being checked by microsoft. I am quite happy for you to have my report number if you wish to follow this up.

What led me to contact them was an email with....

  • Hello thermalseeker,

Apparently you did not understand the terms of the offer, even though they are spelled out pretty clearly on the website:  http://www.microsoft.com/uk/licensing/homeuser/product-identification-service.mspx

So they said that the disc(s) you sent in did not qualify as high quality counterfeits.
Are you saying that in your opinion what you sent in should have qualified as high quality counterfeits?

  • I wouldn't have wasted my time sending it in if I thought it was low quality...

it was hologramed on the disk, not a sticker, it was in a sleeve that had a round microsoft hologramed sticker on it
