Question about development environment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are planning to start using CRM 2011 Online. We also are planning to customize it a lot.

I see basically 2 options to setup the development: online or on premise.

For the online version I asume I have to setup a different organization and buy an additional license for each developer.

The on premise involves setting up a (virtual) server with all the requirements. That requires me to buy licenses for a 2008 server, SQL Server, etc. That can become very expensive since MS changed the pricing schema of SQL server.

Apart from the costs, how likely is it that I develop something on premise that will break down when deployed online?

What is your experience with that?

    Thanks,

    Ton

  • Check out this Wiki article - about 2/3 of the way in it outlines the main differences between the 2 environments from a developer's perspective.

I don't deal too much with pricing - but you might want to look into a MSDN subscription to use for getting licenses for a development environment.

  • Hi

You can maybe look into buying a microsoft partnership license.
