Invalid product key for Microsoft Outlook RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello to anyone.

I have just purchased a new laptop that runs Windows Vista Home Premium.  At the same time I purchased Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, so I have an actual CD in the original case, etc.

As soon as I set the laptop up I installed the Office listed above from the CD (I did not click on the 60 day Office trial thing already on the laptop whatsoever).  I entered the product key when prompted and the install went fine.

I can access Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. all perfectly fine...but Outlook is the problem.  I can use the program, however it continually asks me to enter my product key, and when I copy the key exactly as it is on the sticker from the software case (the identical one I used during Office install), it tells me it is invalid.

    Thank you for any help.

  • Hello Tormark,

As Carey pointed out, Office H&S 2007 does not come with Outlook.

If you absolutely, positively have to have Outlook, you can do one of the following:

    1.  Purchase Outlook separately as a stand-alone product and install.

    2.  Return Office 2007 H&S to the place of purchase and purchase an Office Suite that does include Outlook.  If the place of purchase does not accept software returns, Microsoft has a 45-day software return policy.  http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/productrefund/refund.mspx

    3.  Return Office 2007 H&S as above, but instead of purchasing another Office Suite at the store, activate the preinstalled Office Trial and convert the Trial to a Perpetually licensed product by purchasing the license by following the prompts.

If you do not absolutely need Outlook but do like to use a computer based email client rather than a web client, try the free Windows Live Mail:  http://download.live.com/wlmail  WLM has replaced "Windows Mail" that came with your Vista Home Premium computer

Note:  if you choose an option that does not involve purchasing the installed Office Trial, for best results you should use the Control Panel Applet "Uninstall a Program" to uninstall the Trial.  Sometimes two installations of Ofice on one computer can result in the dreaded "unpredictable results." :-)
