Problems with validation. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently, I have finished building my Pc. I bought the OEM OS from this Japanese Website called 'Rakuten', I'm sure you've heard of it.

The problem is, on the disk I got, there is a sticker that shows the product key, but on the back, there is this message.

"The Microsoft operating system Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a multicolored label located on the side or bottom of your computer. The COA contains the product key code, which might be required to complete the operating system setup"

That shows that this disk was supposed to be sold with the Pc it should have been with. The problem is, I don't have that pc and my Product key does not work.

    It's a windows 7 Pro.

    Here is the error.

  • The Key in use is a COA_SLP Key from a large manufacturer - which is only valid on machines from that manufacturer, and cannot legally be sold separately.

You would appear to have bought a counterfeit (or a stolen license) - Rakuten appears to be an alternative eBay-type store rather than a physical store, and therefore suffers the same problems of counterfeits that eBay does.

I would suggest attempting telephone activation, and seeing what they have to say about your Key. If they confirm it as counterfeit, then try claiming a refund through the vendor and/or Rakuten in the first instance, and if that fails, see if you can get a complimentary replacement through Microsoft's counterfeit reporting procedures. http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/howtotell/default.aspx

    telephone activation (operator calls)

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you
