I have had this computer for a long time and just after upgrading to IE9 from IE8, it's having problems and saying the activation is invalid???

Somehow, your PC appears to have lost its activation status - the OEM_SLP key in use is supposed to be self-activating, relying on the BIOS SLIC table and internal certificates for the job. This appears to have broken down in your case - so you need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System Properties page.You will then need to activate by phone.
