I've already looked thorough a bunch of these threads. The message started being shown after I installed a bunch of Windows update, including service pack 2. I did a diagnostics report:

Also, apparently the product key on the bottom of my computer is not valid although it says otherwise on the bottom of my computer.
Vista came pre installed on the computer so I don't have a cd.Thursday, November 26, 2009 6:15 AM

Hello Shawnyy,
It appears that Vista's Licensing Store may be corrupt of unreadable for some reason. Please try the below steps to recreate a new Store.
(Note: the Key on the sticker on the side or bottom of your computer (known as the COA Key) is Valid, it may have been rejected due to the Licensing Store issue.)
1) Open an Internet Browser window.
2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3) Find the file CMD.exe
4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
9) Type: net start slsvc
10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
11) Restart your computer twice.
12) You may be required to enter the Product Key (use the one listed on the sticker on the side of bottom of the computer) and Activate.
Thank you,
Darin MS
P.S. All computers that come with Windows Pre-installed are required to include some way to reinstall/restore Windows. To save costs, most manufacturers stopped including a separate disk and instead will include the restore/reinstall software on a hidden partition on the PC's hard drive. See the documentation, included with your computer, for details.
Thank you,
