Moving Ext. USB datadrive to eSATA RRS feed

  • Question

  • Trying to improve the performance of my WHS system. I was curious if anyone knew how WHS would handle changing an external USB data drive over to an eSATA connection. Same drive - different connection.  Curious if I could do this during a reboot or would it take something like a rebuild.

WHS identifies drives by giving each one a unique ID.  That drive should still have the same ID (whether it's USB, eSATA or internal SATA), so it should work (although I would shut the server down, disconnect the drive from the server, move the drive from one enclosure to the other, reconnect the drive to the server, then power the server up).
