Bad Windows Server 2008 Standard product key? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know this is for Windows 7, but hopefully someone can help me out.

I recently purchased Windows Server 2008 Standard software, but have been unable to activate. I get an error when activating: 0xC004C003 The activation server determined that the specific product key is in use. And when phoning in, get an error message saying the product is not valid. Everything looks like a regular new retail box (had all stickers in tack) - but the mgadt tools says something about Volume MAK license type...  Here  are the results:

  • File Scan Data-->

    File Mismatch: C:\Windows\system32\linkinfo.dll[Hr = 0x80070002]

Click the start orb & type cmd.exe into the search menu.

Right click it & run as administrator.

Type the following command: sfc /scannow & hit enter.

Wait for the process to finish. Then reboot the system. Repost a new MGADiag Report.

This forum is not really set up for Server systems – we are mostly consumer-oriented, and our knowledge of Server results is very limited.
Having said that, I really have my doubts about the licensing on this system.
The original OS on this hardware appears to have been Vista.
The current licensing appears to be an MAK Channel B (and I personally  have no knowledge of the Channel relevance.)
You appear to be running inside a Virtual machine  -
    - and you have a problem with one particular file (highlighted)

Certainly, you need to correct the file problem before attempting other solutions.
    Try the following.....
    1) System Restore
    2) CHKDSK
    3) SFC scan
    4) CheckSUR installation/scan

post another MGADiag report, and we’ll take another look.
