Call Work option greyed out - can't make any direct telephone calls

FYI: From searches on the internet, I added this to the registry: added TelephonyMode and set it to 3 then logged off and back in again.
Now Call Work is enabled, it tries to call, then beeps, and the complete error details information is here:

"Your user account is misconfigured on the Office Communications Server and you have attempted to make a call or join a conference. You are not allowed to do this operation on the server side."

The "work phone" number is pulled from AD. As far as dialing, have you tried to use the enterprise route helper from the OCS resource kit to check your routes/gateways? You may also need to do some manipulation. More technical detail could help if you have it.
