Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool Reports a different Product Key than Sticker

Hi,
I have endured a hard drive failure. My IT folks spent 3 days and tell me they had to perform sector repairs, then used Acronis to build a image and then transfer the image to the new hard drive and install. (I am lucky that this was able to be worked during a vacation!)
Machine works just fine, there are multiple Windows 7 issues, but they don't seem to affect day to day operations.
My IT folks tell me to resolve the "This computer is not running genuine Windows oX8004fe21" pop up window first.
SO, Windows Activation Technologies reports oX8000247,
and I note that the Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool reports a different Product Key than the Sticker. (The Product ID is fine).
This is a 3 yr old Dell machine with all legitimate software, the error message began after the hard drive rebuild. I have updated all the drivers, including the Intel drivers.
Please note that in the interest of security I will NOT download ANYTHING from a non-Microsoft site so don't even propose a fix requiring that.
Also please note that I will NOT re-format/clean install etc. because I need my machine all day every day and I do not have the ability to take it off line to reinstall all my software and data. If this is the ONLY fix I will need to purchase a new machine instead.
I do not recall if Dell sent the Windows 7 Home Premium disks or not, but either way, I cannot locate them.

My IT folks came up with a fix that I think will be relatively painless - although I still resist due to possible software issues.
At such time as I can be without the machine for a bit (seldom occurs, but Labor Day is coming..)
Buy a new harddrive, install it and uninstall my current c: drive.
Clean install Windows 7 (disks coming from Dell), and core software.
Make sure it's running OK.
Re-install current c: drive as d:.
Reload additional software.
Transfer data as time allows.
Clear d: and Set up as backup drive
Seems like it might work....

Still File Mismatch and Tampered File errors, and Key still does not match the sticker.
I have ordered replacement Windows 7 disks from Dell and I expect them to arrive shortly.
I can't do a full format and reinstall as I cannot take this machine down for the time it would take to reinstall everything, not to mention the data. (Best option due to these constraints is to get a new machine and run both in parallel, transferring everything eventually to the new machine and then maybe someday fully repairing this one - but it still seems like an unnecessary hassle, and expense, if we can just find some way to repair Windows 7.)
At this time the machine is (apparently) running fine, but there are many OS/Microsoft issues. For example, I cannot set any restore points (which is the most concerning), I assume I will still get the pop up 0x8004fe21 error, but that only pops up a couple of times a day, there are also Outlook and IE issues, but I think we need to fix Windows 7 first and those might go away...??
I did see a Windows "Hot Install" procedure on the web that claimed to be able to reinstall Windows 7 without the need to reinstall software or loss of data, but I am always very cautious of these "fixes" as, in my experience, they require significant effort, don't work anyhow, and pose a security risk as one never knows if they are legitimate. If I can't understand the command line commands, or if I am asked to download something that I think is a risk, I will not comply as the perceived security risk is too great.
Please advise is this is salvageable and/or next steps.

there should be no need to change the Key...
Computers that come pre-installed with Windows from large manufacturers usually come with two Product Keys.
OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.
COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.
The only thing I can suggest is that you install the IRST drivers as Carey said initially (as I would have done)
You may find that Dell has an alternative download of the same drivers available on their site.

My IT folks came up with a fix that I think will be relatively painless - although I still resist due to possible software issues.
At such time as I can be without the machine for a bit (seldom occurs, but Labor Day is coming..)
Buy a new harddrive, install it and uninstall my current c: drive.
Clean install Windows 7 (disks coming from Dell), and core software.
Make sure it's running OK.
Re-install current c: drive as d:.
Reload additional software.
Transfer data as time allows.
Clear d: and Set up as backup drive
Seems like it might work....
