Security Warnings???? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I attempt to login to the site using Firefox 3 (Vista SP1 or XP SP3) I recieve the following message (this is from Firefox 3's security features, by the way):

    Secure Connection Failed

profile.microsoft.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.

    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

        * This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

        * If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception…

It's rather confusing and I'm not sure what to make of it. This might not be a bug, but I think it sounds like one.

Note that, if I open a new window and browse to the forum, I'm logged in - but this never happened until recently on both computers, and is definitely inconvenient.

  • I created an exception (following the Firefox UI). (Using Firefox / Windows)

I also get the security certificate warning using Safari/Mac but then it's just ignored.

  • Well, it might be somewhat confusing (and possibly threatening) to users who login using Firefox/Safari. Should I make a suggestion to fix that in the feedback for the forums?

  • I agree that it should be fixed.

I was just trying to say how following the UI it was possible to create that exception for Firefox (and also I was trying to get in the thread the info that this came up with Safari/Mac too but that it just ignored it).

But for sure it's something they ought to fix and you are right to bring it up.

  • I went ahead and posted this in "Suggestions and Feedback for the Forums." http://forums.expression.microsoft.com/en-US/suggest/thread/9616ab18-68fb-485d-be35-456751e1bb45
