  • Trying to back up info to an exteerior hard drive.  I follow with what instructions are given but every time it kicks me back into either dvd or cd's for back up.  I can back up using another program but I can not get windows to backup to my hard drive-I reiterate that I follow all directions but will not use my F drive which is my exterior harddrive.

  •  When you configure backup and select the "what" item, does your external drive show in the list of possible devices?
Is the external drive a USB device or eSATA? The latter is seen by OneCare as an internal device and can't be used as a backup destination without a workaround of making it a Share and using it for Centralized Backup.
If so, are you selecting it and clicking Next? Do you get any error messages?
Are you configuring a backup plan for a single PC or using the option to create a Centralized Backup plan for all PCs?

  • I recently went through a long attempt to recover some backup files and one of the problems turned out to be that my external hard drive was using the FAT File configuration  I was told that OneCare works best with hard drives that are configured in the NTFS file system.  The support person helped me to change the drive file system from FAT to NTFS.  It didn't take very long to do it and the files on it stayed put (although I backed them up just in case).  ( Incidentally, the drive configuration file change didn't help in my case. )
