I can't download important anti-virus software, updates, or microsoft updates

  I just got of the Macaffee anti-virus website who told me my problem was not a macaffee problem but a Windows problem. I cannot download important anti-virus software, updates, or microsoft updates. 3 weeks ago they said Macaffee it might have to do with Active X controls? I don't know. But, when I purchased the CD of macaffee virus, it installled perfectly and I checked my computer for viruses: none. Now, I am still having the same problem. Tonight, when the virtual technician went to windows update, my computer could not download. I need to know how to fix this.
