Can not remove windows live onecare

Question
-
While I was out of town I allowed my brother in law to use my desktop and he managed to install windows live one care without asking. When I returned from vacation I attempted to remove the program to no avail. Now everytime I attempt to open IE, one care attempts to reload itself and asks for me to install the necessary disc. Now the onecare firewall is blocking all other applications from accessing the internet. Nothing I do has any effect. I currently have to use my laptop for all my computing needs. I have downloaded onecare onto my flashdrive and attempted to reinstall it on my desktop but halfway through installation the program attempts to acess the internet and of course is blocked from doing so. I have downloaded the onecare fix app but it doesnt seem to do anything. The onecare uninstaller doesn't do anyting either. Is there something I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I suggest contacting support for help with uninstalling One Care. How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

Therein lies the problem. The interface isn't working at all so the prescribed method of reaching tech support from onecare doesn't help.Monday, May 19, 2008 4:59 AM

I'm not sure how you could have downloaded OneCare to a flash drive, since it is an interactive installer, unless you simply downloaded the installer, but then cancelled the installation once you saved the stub to the flash drive.
In any event, try the cleanup tool -

I'm also not sure what is happening when IE loads, as OneCare and IE are not linked in the way that you describe. Opening IE should have no effect on OneCare trying to start, install, or otherwise. Are you sure that we're talking about the OneCare program downloaded from http://onecare.live.com? Perhaps it is the ActiveX free control from http://safety.live.com? If so, try starting IE and go to Tools/Manage Add-ons to disable the OneCare control.

I guess then I downloaded the installer to my flashdrive then. It asked me whether I wanted to save or run the program. I chose save and designated my flash drive as the target.
As far as the cleanup tool, I have already tried that to no avail.
I'll attempt to disable the OneCare control and see what happens.
Thanks again for your help.

What happens when you run the cleanup tool?
