Hi OneMic,
We have an open installation bug that you could be experiencing. It would be most helpful to us if you could please send us the installation logs so we can see where the install is failing. You can submit the log file either by filing a bug report through Connect or by sending them to lmprev@microsoft.com. In the meantime, Stephen's suggestion to reset your IE Advanced Options to default has worked for some people in the past. Also, if you haven't done so already, you could try saving the LiveMesh.exe installer to your hard drive and then double-clicking it to run the installer from there.
Thanks,
Ben.

To get installation logs:
If you run into an error during the installation of the Live Mesh software a Servicing.log will be created. The easiest way to find this log file:
1. Click Start
2. In the search bar type Servicing*
3. In the search results you will see Servicing.log or Servicing(0000).log depending on where the installation failed. To directly go to the file, the Servicing log is in INSTALLDIR\Setup\Servicing.log or %temp%\Live Mesh\Servicing[0000].log if Live Mesh was uninstalled/rolled back during a failed installation.

I can bet that you'll be asked to file a bug...
The instructions are here:To submit a bug with logs:
Please go to http://connect.microsoft.com/. Sign in and then select Live Mesh Tech Preview on Your Dashboard. Click Feedback and follow the instructions for collecting your logs and then submit a bug.
To get your logs:
1. Click Start.
2. Select All Programs and look for the Live Mesh folder.
3. Click Collect Live Mesh Logs.
4. Your logs will be bundled together in a cab file now located on your desktop.
Attach your LiveMeshLogs.cab file located on your desktop to your bug.Note: you will have to submit a bug first, then edit it to attach your logs.
If you do not have access to the Live Mesh Connect site, you can email your logs to lmprev@microsoft.com. Please provide as much information about your issue as you can in that email.
However, since you can't install, I'm thinking that you aren't going to have logs to submit. Have you checked your IE settings on the machine you are failing on? Perhaps resetting all to default under Advanced in options? Or, at a minimum, check the connections tab and de-select the automatically detect settings option.
