One way synchronization without schema changes to the source database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We would like to use the sync framework to sync multiple "child" databases with a single "master" database.

More often than not, we shall not have the permission/option for modifying the schema of master database. The data required to be synced flows only from master to children and not vice versa.

Kindly provide example of how to achieve above.

  • what database platforms are involved?

Sync Fx itself doesnt modify existing table schemas, it adds new SPs, Tables and triggers though.

  • Currenty master is SQL Server. Though it might as well be Oracle. Can consider ADO .NET.

    Children are all SQL server.

Basically the master will be customer property like an ERP database. We dont want to be adding stuff like SPs, triggers and tables to it. The children databases are for our applications.

  • then you can't use Sync Framework OOTB. It needs to have some form of change tracking to detect changes. if you dont want the extra sync objects/metadata, you will have to write your own sync providers to detect, select and apply changes.

  • Do you think Sync framework with custom providers are the best solution for this scenario ?

Can you suggest the best approach to take (with or without Sync FX) ?
