A Zune app idea RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I had an idea for a Zune app yesterday. I'd be iterested in hearing what others think about it:

Imagine a software application that collected news stories for me ... while I'm busy at work or even as I sleep. Now imagine that those news stories are available to me on whichever device I happen to have in my hand next.

  • Since my Zune 80 is part of my home network I should be able to add it  to the mesh.
I'd love to see some apps like this.

Wouldn't this just be an RSS reader like today (but on a zune)?

  • I think Jamie wants a "smart" version of an RSS reader on top of Live Search News ("smart" in that it pulls in things that *may* be interesting to me--it could even learn based on articles I click through), and possibly even download podcasts/videos in the same way.  Yes, this would be pretty cool, and could be done very easily (once we release the developer APIs).  :D

Keep dreaming up ways to use Mesh!

    Thanks,
    Richard

    Yeah, that's about it.

    There's 2 things here really:
    1) Something smart enough to know what news I would be interested in based on previous readng habits (e.g. What I've read, how long I spend reading it). This can be done without Mesh - in fact its nothing to do with Mesh.
    2) once you've got #1 sorted, throw in the goodness of Mesh so that its on any device any time (In hindsight I really shouldn't have mentioned the Zune - I basically meant "any Mesh device")

This is one of those "problems" that may never really get solved that well.  Filter and Grab are double edge.  For grabing articles based on keyword, you get much *noise.  If filter too tight, you miss a lot.  It will be like a slider dial that you would have to balance to your liking.
