WIN 8.1 on OEM HP desktop "not valid" for upgrade to WIN 10? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have an HP all in one desktop about 2 1/2 years old, bought new. WIN 8 was installed when I bought it; later got an automatic upgrade to 8.1. Was advised I could download an upgrade to WIN 10, so signed in. But now I get a message that WIN 10 was not activated because I don't have a valid product key. I didn't receive a WIN 8 product key with the purchase, but have the equipment serial #, model, etc. Have a key for MS Office, but that doesn't help. What can I do now? I've waited a few days and tried to activate again, but same message. Error Code  0xC004C003 isn't referenced in the fix it yourself info on the MS websites.  Please advise.

Upgrade to WIN 10 from 7, on my Toshiba laptop, seemed to work well, except for some problems with font size, so I was not expecting problems with an upgrade from 8.1.
