Does OneCare create and manage networks

Question

Does OC create and manage networks similar to Cisco's Network Magic?
I have one Vista machine and two XP Pro machines and the XP machines are networked successfully, however the Vista machine REFUSES to network, swap files and print with the other machines.
I have downloaded and installed Network Magic and it works fairly good with only minimal disruptions. Personally, I would rather stick with a MS solution for several reasons, but one reason is with the NM I don't have an antivirus solution.
Tonight, I was at Staples and picked up OC for $20 after a rebate. After coming home and doing my research on the OC site, I don't see a thing about networks other than being able to see the status of other computer's AV and firewall status'. But, on the box it says "Network Management."
Sadly I am confused! Please help. Does this work like Cisco's Network Magic to network PCs together?
Thanks and yes, I am waiting on an answer before I break the seal on the box ;)Friday, March 6, 2009 2:21 AM

Hello bhinesjr, One Care will not set up networking on your computers. It will monitor security status and can configure printer sharing on the computers it is installed on but it will not configure file shares between computers. This can be easily done by using the operating system built in tools and help files or by using a third party application such as Network Magic.

I think Network Magic is good at management while OneCare is good at security. It depends on your need to choose the appropriate product.
I hope it will be helpful. But keep in mind that choosing what you really need.

I would like to say thanks for such a detailed response! It solved my question, as well. JimR1, it may be easy using the built in tools in the OS for some, but for some reason it has been a nightmare for us. We have several XP machines whereas it has been no problem whatsoever, and then all of a sudden we introduce Vista into the mix and it was like dropping a bomb in the room!
Again, thanks for all your help!
