Product Key not working

Question
-
My PC crashed and I have been restoring several programs. Office 2003 was installed by the OEM, HP. Since the trial verson lapsed I subsequently purchased Office 2003, but never did install. Now when i try to install I am unable to activate because I am requested to provide the Product key. I have read similar issues, and here is the diagnostic:

Hello help63,
Unfortunatly, without a Product key, there is not much we can do. The only thing I can suggest is following the support doc KB811224 "How to identify, locate, and replace a product key" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811224
Sorry we couldn't be more help,

Which version of Office 2003 are you attempting to install? You should try first uninstalling the current installation - then installing your own Office. You will still need the Key, which should be on a sticker in the packaging for the disks.

Hi Thanks. My goof. I tried uninstalling and re-installing. Evidently I may not have activated the OEM version, and the packet I have does not have a product Key. Therefore I have concluded that the packet came with the PC, and I may not have purchased the software. I keep pretty good records of product keys, so therefore I may not have purchased it retail.
Having said that, I am unable to activate the installed version as I have been informed that the link is no longer valid. Since I have an older machine I would like to activate the OEM version, but cannot. Is there a way to activate the OEM installed version?
Thank you for your interest and attention.
