Office validation problem after installing MS Project 2007? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just tried to download Word template from MS Office site, and failed validation. An hour ago I had no problem downloading and passing validation (downloaded some different template).

My laptop has both Win XP and Vista installed:

On XP side I have Office 2003 Pro, and Vista side has Office 2007 enterprise version (obtained through Microsoft® Volume Licensing Software Assurance contract between my employer and MS). Recently I purchased copy of MS Project Standard through my employer (Microsoft® Volume Licensing Software Assurance), but installed in on XP side. I'm not sure if this is what caused validation to fail, but have no other explanation. I have never had a problem with validation.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's the info from diagnostics:

  • Hi mm00mm,

Thanks for posting your diagnostic output.  This is what I can tell you from reviewing it.

    1)  Windows installation validates as genuine.

    2)  Microsoft Office Project Standard 2007 validates as genuine.

    3)  Microsoft Office Professinal 2003 fails validation and is not genuine.

The error code you highlighted is a very specific error code and let's us know definitively the reason for the failure.  The product key used to install Office Professional 2003 has been blocked.  This product key belongs to a company in Washington State and is actually one of hte most widely pirated product keys for Office.

If you purchased this copy of Office Professional 2003, you should tell your reseller you want a refund, or if you system was recently repaired, Office Professional 2003 was reinstalled using this blocked key.  You will need to switch to your valid key.  The key beginning with GWH28-*****-*****-*****-***** is posted all over the Internet, and that is why the company that is the legal key holder requested the key blocked.

    Does this help?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

  • Hi MM,

Yes, please do let me know what you find out.  The key that is blocked starts with GWH28 and ends with 3HFDY.

    Thanks,

    Michelle

  • Michelle,
thanks for the reply. Now I'm even more confused: Office 2003 Pro IS a legal copy purchased from the school, and I never had a problem validating it before. I'm going to find my disc and the product key and compare to the key you said is on my laptop.
I'll let you know what I find out.
    Thanks again
