New (2010) Census Tracts? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The 2010 census tracts have been out a couple of months, and there are some differences, especially for fast-growing parts of the US in the sunbelt.  Is there a way to get the new tracts incorporated into MapPoint?  For Dallas County it fails to recognize 77 of the 529 tracts when I feed in data by tract using the new tracts, which is about how many changes the Census Bureau made for 2010.

  • It is quite a big change structural change to the database and will probably have to wait until MapPoint 2012. MapPoint 2011 may have been released in February but the data would have been finalized in late 2010 - hence it could not incorporate census data (which is still being released).

  • Hi,

I was wondering if there's any update in the status of the availability of 2010 census tracts in MapPoint or in Streets and Trips.  Do you know for sure if they will be available in the MapPoint 2012 release?  If so, do you know when it is scheduled for release?

    Thanks,

    CLR

  • Thank you for this post Richard.  On the assumption MapPoint 2012 will include the 2010 census tracts, can you speculate when Microsoft would release MapPoint 2012?  Would it be Feb 2012?

  • Considering it is now May 2012, I don't think a February 2012 release is very likely :-)

  • You may have to consider alternative mapping software that does include the latest Tracts and Census demographics.
