Set Regarding a campaign throws an error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running CRM 4.0 with rollup 9.

    I am using Outlook client.

I can set regarding most entities, but the moment I chose "campaign" as the entity type, it throws an error "an error has occurred".

I also not that I can not set regarding to a "campaign" in the web client, but I can to a "campaign activity"

    Any clues?

  • If an e-mail is associated to a Campaign, then it is either a Campaign Activity that was distributed as an e-mail or a Campaign Response.  What you are attempting to do is not a valid action for an e-mail.

  • Did you try running the Outlook Client Diagnostics? Or the Crm4DiagTool?

  • Ensure you have Append and Append To rights on Campaign.

  • I run Outlook Client Diadnostics and everything is ok.

I have  full right to everything because I'm system admin.

This error has occurred in our two different company.

  • What happens when you create a Campaigna and then on the left hand menu, select activities and create an activity. Does it save?

  • I can do this but only I can create in plannig task (task but not email for example).

In outlook when I mark task and set regarding to campaign it appers in planning task, but when I mark email and I chose "campaign" as the entity type, it throws an error "an error has occurred".

  • check the server event log and this should give you actual error message..

if sever event log contains nothing then enable crm tracing for this as mentioned in following article..

    http://blogs.msdn.com/emeadcrmsupport/archive/2010/04/13/crm-support-tools-hosted-by-the-emea-dynamics-crm-support-blog.aspx

Then paste the real error messagein this thread and someone can help you further with this..

  • Hi Donna,

I have had a few clients have this same problem, where they have email correspondence prior to a campaign, which they would like to track against the campaign, similar to an opportunity. This will allow them to go to a campaign, and view all the emails that were involved with creating the campaign and organising the planning tasks.

Is this not possible in CRM 4.0?

  • If the campaign is created then they can use the Campaign Activity method to distribute the e-mail prior to the campaign 'kick off' and track it. Campaign e-mail tracking works a little different than Opportunity e-mail tracking because there are enhancements like creating Campaign Response activities.
