Static Ip address on windows server 2008 RRS feed

  • just getting started with server 2008, trying to set statix IP address. I have a cisco router set at

    I tried on ther server but loss remote access, router says duplicate network address, to i had to set it back to DHCP

    Can one tell me a what's a good static address i can use on the server that will not conflict with the router?

    Also the server is not connected to the internet so do I need to put a default gateway on the server?

    New to server trying to learn as much as I can

  • Hi, this is Windows Home Server Forums, not server 2008. Having said that, best thing to do would would be to make a reservation (assign IP address to MAC address of your server) in your router. In the router UI you will also be able to see the already assigned IP addresses and the range used by DHCP. Please check your router manual for howto.
