  • If you have installed Windows Live OneCare and its status is green, then the OneCare firewall is on and working. When you install OneCare, it disables the Windows firewall as you do not want to be running two firewalls.

If the Windows Security Center is reporting that your firewall is Off and OneCare is installed and in green status, see this post for the Windows Security Center fix - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2469173&SiteID=2

If you are not using Windows Live OneCare, you're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare. You may want to try the Microsoft Public newsgroups here: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx

  • I have installed LiveOne and it has been at status green for about 1 week since I installed. Last night it turned to red, and said firewall was off-but when i click the "turn on firewall" button, there is no action-it freezes. 5 minutes later my whole computer crashed and cannot restart. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE FIREWALL and why is it turning itself off????? What do I do now-it is a brand new laptop...do i take it back?

The crash and cannot restart sounds like a much bigger issue than the firewall being off and not able to be turned on.

What happens when you try to restart? Does Windows not start or does the PC not boot up at all? If Windows won't start, what is the error message displayed, if any? When you say that it crashed 5 minutes after trying to start the firewall from the link within OneCare, did the machine just go black or did you get a blue screen before rebooting?

Normally, if the firewall turns off and won't stay on, using the repair tool resolves it:

That will be useless to you until you can boot back into Windows.
