Radio (I think) playing in background without my starting it. ?Virus RRS feed

    All of a sudden, no matter what I am doing my computer will start palying radio in the background.  People talking, ads, music, etc.  I can't find the process or alpplicaiton that is starting it.  I have run One Care and it hasn't found a virus.  What is going on????

    Try moving your speakers around. I suspect that the speaker wires may be picking up a radio or TV signal. It is not likely to be a virus or infection.

    I have the same problem with what seems to be radio station randomly playing in the background without my turning it on.  I can't find the process, and my scans haven't found a virus either.  It's been going on for a couple weeks, and now I have no control over my speakers.  Can anyone help??

    there is nothing to do with the wires of speakers i have a laptop and its doing that also

    this problem is a virus or something

    Mine occassionally is doing this.  I think that maybe it stems from an adware type application.  I also have pinned it down to some older files I have stored on my WinBook Storage Drive.  Every time I access those files this happens later after ai ahve downloaded files back to my main hard drive.  Then I will run full virus scans and re-boot clean and after a couple tries I cacn get it to stop.  I never have figured out exactly what stops it , just htat trying many ways to clean the system and dump temp files seems to work for a while.

    This is definatly not a case of "radio/tv stations leaking into the speaker wires" It seems to happen randomly around every hour. You can stop it by executing an "End Task" on "Explorer.exe" withing task manager. I too have run adware scans and virus scans and turned up nothing. Randomly I will hear a "Click" sound like I was clicking a link in IE however I have no instances of IE open. I hope this information helps.

    And this is about all you can expect from companies such as microsoft.  Ramble off some bogus answer, such as "speaker wires picking up frequencies".  And to add injury to insult, advise you to call a "hotline".  Call it.  I dare you.  All you will get is a troubleshoot of general problems, and after 40+minutes of unrelated questions and answers, you'll hang up even more frustrated.  How many times does someone have to call a "hotline" and answer the same questions?  Which OS are you running? Are you connected to the internet?  Is your mouse working?  Is your keyboard working?  Are your speakers connected?  Is your volume on?  Is it on mute?  Are you sure its coming from the computer?  Are you kidding me???  And to top it all off, you can barely understand who you are talking to because they speak english so poorly.  That, in itself takes up 20minutes, constantly asking what did you just say?  I cant hear you.  I dont know what you just said?  So steve, give us a break.  Dont send us an automated response when you cant find an answer to a question in a few minutes.  If you dont know whats going on, just say so.

    Sevens, with all due respect, if you read my responses in this thread, my first reply indicated "I suspect" as this could indeed cause the problem. I also stated, "I've never heard of this..." in another response. Since people are insisting that they believe it to be spyware or a virus, though I disagree, the referral to the spyware help line is a valid direction.

    Please note that the moderators of this forum, myself included, do not work for Microsoft, but are customers who have volunteered. Secondly, the forum is for discussion of Windows Live OneCare, not for general computer problems or spyware issues.

    I'm sorry that you don't like the answers, but the correct answer remains - if you are using OneCare, contact support. If you are not, feel free to seek help from the number I posted above or seek help elsewhere as you would be off topic for this forum. And, yes, I know that phone support can be frustrating - for both sides, the customer and the tech.

    Did you ever get this problem fixed?  I had this happen on one of our computers.  I ran Spybotsd15 (spybots search & destroy).  This program seemed to find and fix the problem.  Note:  Before running spybots I could not get into Task Manager.  After running spybots I could.

    It's not a virus or anything wrong with your computer my tv used to do it as well. have moved the speakers and nothing happened (even called the radio station they got a good laugh.  You can try calling your internet supplier but it won't do much good. (got tired of going through menus gave up) Might have to try moving your system to a new local..

    go to msgr prefferences, u can do da settings frm dere, probably by default music radio is on.un-click dat.dont worry ders no virus.

    I am fairly certain its not a virus. I have plugged my speakers into three different PCs with the same background noise, however as soon as I starting playing something my desired audio either cuts out or drowns out the background. The background noise returns if I unplug the audio jack but leave the speakers turned on. Never heard if any virus or add ware that can effect speakers that aren't even plugged in.

    Electronically I wasn't aware that speakers had the required circuitry to convert radio signals into sound its an entirely different process from data down a wire as far as I understand it but I'm no expert.

    Either way no need to worry about viruses any more.

    This is a virus. I've had 3 PCs. One with external speakers and two internal. You can hear men talking and music playing. I thought they were wrong until I heard it myself. I tried to run Spybot and the window does not open, even in safe mode. Symantec found 5 threats and cleaned them, Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool found 3 threats and removed, however; Spybot still would not run (safe mode either). Ended up doing a fresh OS load.

    If anyone is still having this problem I Think i sorted this problem for my father. I think it was a cookie, I emptied out the cookies and it seems to stop it for now. dont know if it finished it for good. but it seemed to help

    HI this is a virus or spyware that is almost impossible to find or remove I have tried everything out there to remove it like Malwarebytes and Superantispyware,hijack this and various other rootkit revealers and spyware removers it would also redirect you to ad filled websites if you searched on how to get rid of it. Stopzilla is the only program that would not only detect it but also remove it now I just get scripting errors on IE but that can be fixed by removing it and re installing IE 8. Hope that helps someone I fought with it for hours getting it off my system.
