Outlook Client Sync - Forcing it from the CRM Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a situation where we want to force the user's Outlook client to sync with the server so that an email will be sent out immediately rather than waiting for the sync to occur in the background.

There is an SDK function triggering a synchronization between the client and the CRM server - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc156654.aspx

However, it isn't clear on how we can execute this from the server to force a specific user's client to sync.

    Ideas?

  • There's no way of doing this from the server. The sync code runs on the client.

If you really wanted to be able to do this, you could write an applet or windows service that you deploy onto each client that listens for a message from the server. When it receives the message, it then runs the CRM Sync on the client. However, you'd have to be very careful with the security implications, and deployment would also be a pain
