Windows 7 Home Premium is suddely not genuine anymore, cannot validate RRS feed

  • I purchased my computer in Oct 09 with Windows Vista and the free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium.  Two weeks ago, while using my computer, a window popped up saying Windows was not genuine and I needed to go online to resolve the issue.  I went online to the Microsoft Genuine Software website and ran the diagnostic test and it said Windows is not genuine, but I can pay $109 to purchase a new copy.  I also right clicked on my computer and clicked on the Activate Windows at the bottom but it said it cannot active Windows because it is not genuine.  I tried to re-enter my product key, but the error code 0x80070426 came up.  I called Dell (who I bought the computer from) and they said my copy is genuine and for $250 they can try to resolve my problem.  I called Microsoft and after being transferred from department to department  I was told that I couldn't activate Windows because my product key was already used.  I said, duh, I used it just over a year ago when I got my computer (the same computer that is having problems).  They said my product key is OEM, which means Dell generated it for one time use.  The woman said she would give me a new product key which would work, although she wasn't technical support so she wouldn't tell me what was wrong.  All she said was that I must have installed something new to my computer (I have no memory of installing anything new recently but with auto updates, who knows?)  I entered the new product key, and the same error code 0x80070426 came up again.  I have Googled this problem and it seems I am not alone here.  One person said to try running the Windows Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool and post my problem here, and I got these results below.  I was planning on reinstalling Windows, except my computer does not recognize cds, dvds, etc to back up my files before I try to start from scratch (it does recognize movie dvds -- no sound works though -- just not blank ones).  I have tried to connect to my husband's computer through WiFi in order to transfer the files to him to back-up, but his computer no longer recognizes mine.  HELP!

      I am deeply sorry for your experience with that customer service person. I don't like saying this but everything she told you was complete rubbish. She was not lying when she said she wasn't technical support because nearly all the information she provided you (except the new Product key) was incorrect.

     

      The Non-Genuine messaging combined with the other issues you are experiencing suggests that there is a bigger issue with your Windows and the Non-genuine messaging is just a side-effect of the bigger issue.  I agree that reinstalling would most likely be the best solution at this point.  The problem is finding a way to move your impotent data off the computer.

      The best suggestion I can give is if you have a USB thumb Drive or a external USB Hard Drive, you might try connecting it and see if the PC recognizes it. If so, backup your data that way. 

      If you have tried everything and nothing works to back up your files, the last resort you can try is emailing the really impotent files to someone and have them have them mail the files back once your PC is back in working order.  (Note: Some email systems don't allow sending of really large files so you may be limited in what you can save using this method).

  • pozz svima I ja sam imao slican problem  kupio sam sa racunarom vista home orginalni 200 $ kosto me je i nakon dvije godine  promjenim hardware i stalno mi trazi aktivaciju putem online i da nije genuine ok zvao sam pustali su mi genuine taj sta ja znam dok mi zadnji put nisu htjeli ko fol nevjeruju  ..pa zatim kao sto mi nisu vjerovali rekli su mi da kopiram licencu ili cd orginalni i to sam poslo i opet mi nevjeruju sve im dadnem opet nevjeruju pa su mi trazili racun od tvrtke gdje sam kupio pc da mi dadnu racun i ja fino kaze gospodinu i gospodji skim sam par put pricao da je ta tvrtka propala IT COmputers gracanica ba oni uporno nevjeruju i ono zao nam je takav je zakon znaci zakon je sve dosad bio ok pustali su me tj vjerovali a prije nekih 20 dana novi zakom izasho  tako da sam bevzeze bacio 200 $ za orginalni cd vista home nemogu da ga koristim traze mi racun  gdje sam kupio cd 2 .2 2009 g i pc a i to sam kupio na rate koji i danas dan mi se odbija preko platne liste a ta firma je propala u stecaju i nestala sa zemlje ha ja sto nije posteno on microsofta ok NIJE BEG CICIJA

    To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
    Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
