Live Mesh On Demand Sync RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've searched the forums and cannot find an answer to this.  With LiveSync being turn off at the end of March 2011 I'm looking at upgrading to LiveMesh.  I've noticed a key feature (for me) has been removed.  I currently use LiveSync with the "on demand" function so remote computers have the complete folder and file list with placeholder files, its not until we try and open the file that it downloads over LiveSync.

This feature seems to be missing from Live Mesh?  I am syncing 100-150GB over three folders between a few sites in different states and do not what to be downloading the whole lot.

Is this coming soon, or can anyone provide another solution?  I've looked at SyncToy but we don't have VPN or static addresses and it would require too much setup on the remote end.

    Cheers,
    James

Since you are referring to Windows Live Mesh, not Live Mesh - www.mesh.com, you are in the wrong forum. Yes, the naming convention is confusing, though I like that they kept the Mesh name alive for the upgrade to Live Sync (formerly FolderShare).

For discussion of the new Windows Live Mesh (formerly Sync), (as well as the released Live Sync version) go here:

However, there is no on demand sync feature. Any folder you add to your mesh will syc automatically. If a file is opened and modified on multiple computers in the mesh, a copy is created and you get a copy with the name of the PC appended so that you can deal with the conflict situation.

  • can someone add a 'noindex' tag to this forum, so i doesn't turn up as the #1 result for "Live Mesh"?

  • I wish, spongman. I am hopeful that the forum will be closed within a few weeks of the shut down of the Live Mesh beta services on or about 31st of this month (March, 2011).
