We are currently on Rollup 10, i have downloaded the latest version, everything is all set.
During the install, i am getting following error:
I would really appreciate if anybody can guide me in right direction on how to troubleshoot this issue. Currently this is a showstopper for me and i have done quiet a few experiments but still no resolution.

Ok, so the issue has been resolved.
It has nothing to do with registry or what not.
I didn't have DOMAIN ADMINISTRATOR privileges on the box.
Our IT Manager was able to install it in now time.So any who get's this error during BID Extension install, don't waste your time elsewhere just ask your Domain Admin to install it for you.
Thanks,
SamPS: I tried removing the registry key as well.

No Amreek it didn't help at all.
I am already aware of this link and have seen quiet a few like that already.
The link you have posted is about "CRM 2011 Install" and solution steps (Uninstalling CRM 2011) is not appropriate.Thursday, August 30, 2012 11:39 AM -
Can you check the setup log to get causes of failure?

I am having this issue in Jan 2014. The above solutions did not work Why hasn't this issue been fixed ?Friday, February 28, 2014 9:17 PM

Same here, the issue is a showstopper as without the extension thingy the fetch xml is not supported in Visual Studio. It would be good to have the attention of developers on this issue. At least it would be good to have a clear indication that this is not currently working so that people avoid to spend time trying to install something that won't install.

p.s: I've tried:
- removal of keys from registry (in my case they were not there)
- getting administrator role for my user
both did not change anything at least for me.
