I am just getting started with Project Server 2010 - PWA and sharepoint. If someone can point me in the right direction I don't believe what I am hoping to do is too difficult (famous last words) but I am struggling to determine if it is even possible.
Here is what I want to do:
(1) Using PWA - Create a new project and associated sharepoint site. I can do this and everything works great. The goal of the sharepoint site is to store documents for the project in a central location. This all seems to be working great
(2) Using PWA and timesheets - This is where I am having problems. What I would like to do here is to simple have users submit timesheets and keep a running total of the number of hours * resource cost = Total cost spent for a project. I really don't
care about adding task to my project/project plan, I was hoping too allow users to enter there time by selecting a project and entering a comment about what they are working on. The total number of hours would be record as spent on that specific project and
I would want to access this information somewhere - somehow.
The idea here is that I am using PWA without any real tasks, but want users to submit there timesheets by selecting a project and entering a comment. Is this even possible?
Questions:
(1) Do I need tasks in my project plan in order to enter timesheet information and keep a running total of the cost associated with a given project?
(2) How do I add time enteries into my timesheet with just the project name and comment area? I can only seem to do this if I enter a single blank task into my project plan, assign all uses as resources to the blank task and then I can select enter new task
from my timesheet options. If I do this I cannot figure out how to get the total cost spend on the project after a timesheet has been submitted and approved.
I hope this make some sense, but if not please ask me questions as I could really use some help in getting this setup.
