So it seems like once a week or so whs looses connection with my remote PC's why? I press and hold the power switch to shut down server flip off rocker switch on power supply press power button flip rocker switch back on and turn server back on and all is well. Could the fact that I use a static IP on my remote machines cause the problem or is there a known issue I'm unaware of? Also why does whs keep saying my avg is outdated or not installed on remote PC's when it is installed and up to date? Any help greatly appreciated.
First you shouldn't hold down a power button to shutdown a server - that is to do an 'emergency power off'. You should only need to momentarily push the button i.e. for less than a second. This may cause you strange problems where data is not written to the disk when it's powered off like that.
Static IP address shouldn't be a problem but you might want to try dynamic IP (DHCP) from your router and see if that works out better for you - when you setup your static IP did you get all the parameters right. i.e. is the gateway your router and not the windows home server.
Another thing you might want to check is that your home server and client PCs are all in the same workgroup.
